Reducing friction on its core
I had my first interaction with computer at 2005 when i was 4 years old. At that time it seemed like an utility to play music, do some writing and play games. Without internet and books I never knew existince of `programming` and even if I did, local resources for programming was probably lackluster.
Got internet in 2009 and only thing I got taught was facebook. Spent a lot of time playing all the hits of that time in facebook. In 2012 I got my facebook account stolen. Hackers got into my favorite game at the time `wildones`. They deleted all my data. When I got my account back I was angry. A year worth of commitment was deleted within such small period. I wanted to build my account back. And the only way I found, was cheating. Searched forums, watched tutorials, learned about Cheat Engine. Did some simple cheats. Built my account back with all the little cheats I found. But, it never got past that.
Until this very moment I never really sat and thought about this. That was a start. An ignition maybe, but it amounted to nothing. I never learned lua to automate it. Never learned assembly to understand what eax in disassembler meant. Why did I not just keep exploring? It seems like the most obvious next step, right? Many people find joy in life tinkering like that. What made me stop?
Well 14 years past since then, I now have a bachelors degree on computer engineering. Did some demos in unity engine which never got past mvp stage. Had some fun with batch scripting. And at work I develop backend services with python and nodejs. I think I am fairly knowledgable. Eventhough my experience is merely 2 years at this profession. But, I sense that I still have the same issue that 12 year old me had. I have a sense that somethings are not right. You see, during this 14 year gap. I never actually stopped programming. I tried .net wpf applications. I tried making websites that i host on some random free hosting service. I tinkered with arduino in highschool. Got into UAV competitions. But that problem, never got solved.
This year I decided to interrogate myself whenever I felt like something is wrong. Not with vague questions, no. I exhausted all the questions that came to my mind and started answering them. Am I scared? Am I unhappy with my progression? Is my editor slow? Am I unproductive because I suck? Do I hate computers?
I hate using web. More I dig into why more i realise i hate it because of the javascript.
And HTML is intertwined javascript so i hate HTML as well.
I recently saw TSoding creating a simple templating tool that helps him generate html from his own text.
Then I saw gingerBill do it on Odin so i thought why not. This is the first document to be generated from my conversion program.
// Here is some code to test highlighting
#import "os:fmt"
main :: proc()
{
fmt.println("HelloWorld")
}
